Hey everyone, I’m Erik Thor, an expert on using personality psychology for flow and personal development.

How To Be Happy | How Gratitude Makes You Happier

Happiness is one of the three most important things that people seek in the modern world, and happiness is arguably second only to the pursuit of money or status. We want to be happy, after we have become rich and popular, and we see no point in being happy before we have attained the first two things. In this article, I will show you how to be happy and what you can do to improve your well-being.

First, like I said in my previous article, Help, I’m A Ball Of Anxiety, it is silly to focus on happiness. Happiness is an emotion. Emotions are information. They help us make decisions based on the current situation. They are relative to the time or place you happen to be in right now. So no matter if you are rich or poor, happy or healthy, happiness is a fleeting state and you will sometimes have happy days, and you will have darker days. Instead of focusing on being happy, you want to focus on building humility.

How To Become Happy Through Gratitude

How To Be Happy

  1. Make some casual observations about your environment

Note down things about the room or place you are in. Is the sun shining? How would you describe your environment?

  2. Notice the things that make you feel positive

What do you like about your current situation or environment? Are there are nice smells? Are you sitting comfortably? Are you warm enough? Do you feel satisfied or full?

  3. Build gratitude

Find things in your life that you feel gratitude towards. Things you are just happy to have. Things you are proud to have accomplished. Small things about living that make you feel grateful to be alive.

  4. Express gratitude

Express gratitude to friends or family members, showing appreciation for small things that people do, or celebrating or expressing joy about the small things, the comfort of the bed, the warmth of the sun, or the pleasant fragrance of a home cooked meal.

  5. Notice how gratitude can change you

Gratitude literally warms you from the inside out. When you feel – and express gratitude, you also open yourself to feel happiness.
