Master the Eight Functions

Have you ever noticed that people change from situation to situation? Well, so have we! And we have found that people change according to a pattern. The pattern can be explained by Jungs eight functions.
functionsns
Intuititives
Intuitives have a preference for being creative, for taking the alternative route, for seeing things from multiple contexts. But one is more creative when working on a project, while the other is more creative when working outside of it.
Sensors
Sensors have a preference for being traditional, for being concrete, from following and building good habits. But one is more habitual when working on a project, while one is more practical when they don’t have a set plan or goal in their mind, and can just take the day as it comes.
Autonomous
Introverted Intuition and Extroverted Sensing types are abstract when working towards a goal, and realistic and concrete when they any set expectations. Because of their strong, narrow mindset to othersย ideas, and their ability to elaborate and think deeply about abstract issues, they tend to appear highly autonomous. They areย set in their ways, with a deep, complex mind.

  • Tend to be highly open minded to any idea that fits within their ideology, goal or project
  • They often have complex insights, strategies, and visions, but their end goalsย tend to be concrete
  • Will generally give you realistic and concrete feedback to your ideas.

Collaborative
Introverted Sensing and Extroverted Intuitive types are realistic and concrete when working on a goal or a project, but creative when they don’t have any set expectations or plans. Because they often enjoy to discuss topics in a creative manner and because they’re very reliable project members I often call them “collaborative”. They always have big ideas to new topics, and they’re highlyย able to make the abstract into something realistic in the end.

  • They are highly open minded and can offer lots of creative suggestions to yourย new ideas.
  • Their goals tend to be highly abstract and hard to grasp, but they are very organized and realistic on the way there.
  • Tend toย have the most ideas but they don’t always see the big picture of their ideas.

Feelers
Feelers are dreamy, social, personal. They consider values, experiences, feelings. They value their experiences by its effect on their mood. And theyย act out social ideas and roles, they act on hunches or vibes. But there are two kinds of feelers, and if you prefer feeling over thinking, you’ll want to find out which situations put you the most in touch with your values.
Thinkers
Thinkers are logical, objective, impartial. They mindfully define what is happening around them. They measure, score, and focus their minds on work or specific tasks. There are however two kinds of thinkers: one person finds it easier to be objective when they have distance from others. The other finds it easier to be objective when they are in conversation with others.
Debaters
Introverted Thinkingย and Extroverted Feelingย types are abstract when working towards a goal, and realistic and concrete when they any set expectations. They tendย to have social, personal exchanges with others, often in the form of debate or discussion. They can expand on and focus their mental resources for a long time even without anyone to talk to. In silence they are rational, objective, critical, and highly focused, speculativeย thinkers.

  • Enjoy to passionately discuss ideas, in social situations, they see everything as an opinion or theory.
  • Easily able to focus their thoughts and their mental resources for scientific or theoreticalย pursuits
  • Want to findย support for their values and opinions

Appliersย
Introverted Feelingย and Extroverted Thinkingย types tend to be most objective when they have someone to talk to, or a list, or something to organize their thoughts. They’re appliers in the sense that they keep track of their work, plans, lists, even when they’re around others. They try hard to maintain their objectivity in a social situation. When alone they can daydream long and deeply, imagining elaborate social situations. In silenceย they are thinking about life, and having highly meaningful inner experiences.

  • Enjoy to discuss ideas objectively, see everything they say as objective fact.
  • Tend to have a strong inner world – strong values, a firm, innerย ethical code.
  • Want to find objective facts to support their values and views.
